Cayuga Nation of the Haudenosaunee

The Human Resources Department of the Cayuga Nation issues the following job postings for positions with the Nation and its enterprises. This is an exciting and historic time for the Cayuga Nation as we are working hard to bring the Cayuga people to their homeland. There is much work to be done. Nation Secretary

Job Description
Administration support and administrative assistance are essential to the efficient operation of the Cayuga Nation. The Cayuga Nation Secretary provides clerical, operational, and personnel support to the Cayuga Nation and its department Coordinators.

The Cayuga Nation Secretary maintains and updates the enrollment records for Cayuga Nation citizens, preparing Citizen ID cards, certificates and hunting and fishing licenses.

She/he prepares payment vouchers for weekly bills. The Nation Secretary records, compiles, and distributes minutes of all Nation meetings, especially Council meetings. She/he prepares/edits the Consensus Decisions CD’s for Council approval. She/he also orders supplies and equipment. The Nation Secretary schedules travel arrangements and accommodations for employees on Cayuga Nation business. Reports to the Unity Council of the Cayuga Nation. The Nation Secretary also manages and oversees the Administrative Assistant, and the front desk Receptionist.

Qualifications
• Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Administrative Assistant

Job Description
Administration support and administrative assistance are essential to the efficient operation of the Unity Council of the Cayuga Nation. The Administrative Assistant will perform a wide range of administrative and office support tasks for Supervisors and Coordinators, in conjunction with the Nation Secretary. He/she will prepare and modify documents including correspondence, reports, drafts, memos, emails, meeting agendas, newsletters, mail outs and meeting schedules. The Administrative Assistant records, compiles, and distributes meeting minutes. The Administrative Assistant maintains office supply inventories, coordinates maintenance of office equipment, and manages cook and cleaning staff.

Qualifications
• Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures and principles and practices of basic office management.

Front Desk Receptionist

Job Description
The Front Receptionist for the Cayuga Nation provides administrative support, focusing on guest reception. She/he will answer incoming calls and take messages. He/she will greet visitors and monitor visitor access. Front Desk Receptionist will handle visitor queries, receive postal deliveries, and assist in office projects as needed.

Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalency.

Human Resources Administrative Assistant

Job Description
The Human Resources Administrative Assistant reports to the Human Resource Coordinator. The Administrative Assistant assists with employee recruitment, coordinates pre-employment tests, assembles new hire packets, inputs employee data, maintains employee files, organizes new employee orientations, assists with record keeping, responds to employee inquiries about human resources issues and fulfills other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Degree in Human Resource Management or Business Management experience is preferred.
• Effective problem-solving skills.
• Computer skills and knowledge of relevant software.

Cook

Job Description
Cooks are responsible for shopping and preparing healthy lunches and dinners for Cayuga Nation citizens, employees, and guests. This position requires the ability to cook in bulk and use commercial kitchen equipment. Cooks need to be able to keep inventory, follow a recipe, store everything properly and uphold health and safety standards. They also need to plan healthy menus for those with food allergies, glucose and gluten constraints. Clean up is required.

Qualifications
• Knowledge of food preparation and nutrition.
• Experience working in a kitchen, cooking for large groups.
• Have a valid driver’s license.
• Possess a high degree of cleanliness.

Language and Culture Development Coordinator

Job Description
The Language and Culture Development Coordinator gives citizens of the Cayuga Nation opportunities to increase their knowledge of Cayuga language, culture and traditions. He/she helps Cayuga citizens and Nation employees learn more about their language, Haudenosaunee Long House traditions, the Great Law of Peace, Cayuga history, and social songs and dances. He/she will establish programs that serve and include all ages: young children, adolescents, teens, adults, and elders. The Language and Culture Development Coordinator, along with her/his staff, is responsible for the curriculum, teaching, program design, and implementation.

Qualifications
• Professional proficiency of the Cayuga language.
• Experience in teaching language with a minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience.
• An unyielding commitment to personal communication with Cayuga citizens regarding their language learning goals.
• Strong communication skills (speaking, listening and writing) with a proven track record of success.
• Strong leadership and team building skills. Some evening and weekend work and travel will also be required.

Language and Cultural Teachers

Job Description
Language and Cultural Teachers, working with the Language and Culture Development Coordinator, develop all aspects of programming to teach Cayuga citizens, their families, and employees of the Nation how to speak, write, and understand the Cayuga language. The Teachers help Cayuga citizens and Nation employees learn more about their language, Haudenosaunee Long House traditions, the Great Law of Peace, Cayuga history, and social songs and dances. Transportation Coordinator

Job Description
The Transportation Coordinator, coordinates the Cayuga Nation’s growing transportation department. This includes scheduling and assigning drivers; ensuring scheduled and emergency vehicle maintenance is completed; and keeping detailed records about Nation vehicle use. The Coordinator provides safe, effective and efficient transportation for Cayuga Nation citizens, their families, and Cayuga Nation employees for medical appointments, pick up of prescriptions, authorized errand runs, educational programs, cultural trips, athletic team events, and special events, as deemed appropriate by the Cayuga Nation Council. The goal is to provide the highest quality service while ensuring safety and reliability.

Qualifications
• Valid and clean NYS driver’s record, driving experience.
• Must be 25 years or older.
• Well-organized, motivated and trustworthy person.
• Ability to coordinate staff, great communication skills, congenial attitude, a team player, and able to work flexible hours (some nights and weekends).

Driver

Job Description
Drivers deliver Cayuga citizens and their family members to their medical appointments, pick up prescriptions, and run local errands as needed, under the direction of the Transportation Coordination. In order to assure safety while driving a Cayuga Nation vehicle, a driver must make safety checks prior to operating the vehicle and observe safety laws and practices.

Qualifications
• Valid and clean NYS driver’s record, driving experience.
• Must be 25 years or older.
• Congenial attitude, a team player, and able to work flexible hours.

Transportation Maintenance Specialist

Job Description
The Transportation Maintenance Specialist does minor maintenance, adjustments, evaluations, and repairs on Cayuga Nation vehicles. He/she also functions as a Driver when there is need for her/his expertise. He/she is required to do a variety of maintenance activities and must know when an issue is too much for him/her to handle. He/she ensures that all vehicles run efficiently, are safe for the road, and are kept clean.

Qualifications
• Valid and clean NYS driver’s record, driving experience.
• Knowledgeable in vehicle repair with 5 years experience.
• Must be 25 years or older.
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification.

Mechanics

Job Description
Mechanics for the Cayuga Nation service, repair, and maintain vehicles. Must be able to conduct a diagnosis, use sophisticated tools, and pinpoint the cause of car malfunctions. Mechanics report to the Transportation Maintenance Specialist and work closely with him/her. Mechanics must be able to lift and manipulate heavy machinery and tools; they must know and follow safety precautions.

Qualifications
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification.
• Two years or more of work experience.
• Strong ethical values.
• A high school diploma or equivalency is mandatory.

Cashiers

Job Description
Cashiers receive cash and credit cards from the customers/clients of our businesses. Cashiers must be good at counting money and making change. Cashiers with Cayuga Nation Enterprises do more than handle cash and products; they are the face of our businesses and must be friendly and courteous to all customers.

Qualifications
• Math skills, ability to make change quickly.

Payroll Clerk

Job Description
The Payroll Clerk ensures employees are properly compensated for their time worked and is the first person to handle payroll questions and concerns. The Payroll Clerk works closely with all employees and supervisors to this end; the Payroll Clerk reports to the Human Resource Coordinator. Duties include reviewing employee time cards for accuracy; keeping payroll records for current, retired and otherwise terminated staff data; and submitting weekly payroll amounts and any changes directly to the Nation’s paycheck company. He/she must manage time well to prevent delays in payroll activities and proactively address employee concerns. Other duties include filing and assisting the Coordinator of Human Resources as needed.

Employee Assistance Program Coordinator

Job Description
The Employee Assistance Program Coordinator (or EAPC) for the Cayuga Nation helps employees reach their maximum workplace effectiveness and strives to support them in other aspects of their life as well. EAPC helps the Nation deal with the effects of employee alcohol and drug abuse, mental and psychological problems, depression or anxiety, and other circumstances that can affect employee productivity, employee well-being, and community health. The EAP Coordinator must be trained in mental health and substance abuse, able to provide and/or develop a variety of services for Cayuga Nation citizens, their families, and Cayuga Nation employees. The EAPC performs intakes, conducts evaluations, and provides referrals and reports as appropriate.

Qualifications
• Must be a certified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) or Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC).
• Ability to interact tactfully at all levels.
• Adheres to highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.

Recreation Manager

Job Description
The Recreation Manager plans, organizes, and schedules activities for Cayuga citizens and employees. The primary responsibility of the Recreation Manager is to promote healthy living and exercise through its programs, providing opportunities for the community to be entertained, enthusiastic, and active. The Recreation Manager plans activities for different age groups, genders, and ability levels. The Recreation Manager creates event schedules; develops and keeps a department budget; and orders equipment, team shirts, and trophies etc. He/she must have a thorough knowledge of the Cayuga Nation and Haudenosaunee culture. This includes knowledge of lacrosse, snowsnake, horseshoes, social singing and dancing as well as contemporary activities. The Recreation Manager will report to and work along with the Language and Cultural Manager to provide programs for the people.

Qualifications
• Highly organized, energetic, motivated, and creative.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Possess a basic understanding of math for keeping track of scores and statistics, as well as a financial budget for activities.
• Knowledge of Haudenosaunee culture.

Construction and Repair Coordinator (CRC)

Job Description
The Construction and Repair Coordinator (CRC) plans, organizes, and manages construction and repair projects to support the Nation’s development and to support Cayuga citizens. The Construction and Repair Coordinator selects, orientates, trains, assigns, schedules, coaches, and disciplines employees. He/she clearly communicates job expectations on an ongoing basis and ensures employees are following Cayuga Nation policies and procedures. The CRC will meet construction budgets by monitoring project and general expenditures, identifying variances, and adjusting accordingly. The Construction and Repair Coordinator maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing safety standards and procedures. When multiple projects are requested or required, CRC gives realistic expectations and prioritizes projects in a just and equitable way, keeping the community and Housing Department informed at all times.

Qualifications
• Skilled at project management, quality management, supervision, and delegation.
• Ability to prioritize multiple goals and projects.
• Understands employee strengths and challenges.
• Communicates clearly and fairly with Cayuga citizens and in collaboration with the Housing Department.
• Multiple years experience in all aspects of construction work.

Construction Workers

Job Description
The Cayuga Nation is looking for general laborers as well as more specialized workers, such as electricians, carpenters, masons, and bricklayers. Construction Workers will be responsible for creating and repairing buildings, under the direction and supervision of a Construction and Repair Coordinator. They must follow the safety regulations put forth by the Cayuga Nation.

Qualifications
• Ability to lift heavy loads, stand and work for extended periods of time.
• Positive coping techniques to deal with stress on the job.
• High school diploma or equivalent and/or technical school certificate.
• Two (2) or more years’ experience.
• Able to work unsupervised and well with others.


Shipping and Receiving Coordinator

Job Description
The Shipping and Receiving Coordinator functions as a warehouse agent and logistics assistant for Cayuga Nation Enterprises. He/she is responsible for receiving shipments, tracking inventory, and helping to restock our stores. The Shipping and Receiving Coordinator will schedule staff and prioritize tasks to manage warehouse and resources. The Shipping and Receiving Coordinator will supervise the operating of the tier-lift truck or hand truck to move shipments from shipping-and-receiving platform to storage or work area and from storage to the store(s). Other tasks performed by the Shipping and Receiving Coordinator include training new employees in procedures and safety, hiring, and performing routine inspections of procedures, equipment, and facilities to ensure employee safety and inventory accuracy.

Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Practical experience with stock work and receiving.
• Ability to ensure a safe, hygienic, orderly work environment.
• Ability to handle problems, stoppages, interruptions and other delays.
• Knowledge of computers as needed for email, internet use, Microsoft Office, and inventory programs/software.

Housing Program Coordinator

Job Description
The Housing Program Coordinator is responsible for the oversight and development of all public housing operations at the Cayuga Nation. This includes developing and managing rental/home assistance programs; creating and upholding lease agreements for housing units and rental homes; and ensuring safe and adequate property maintenance and construction—on all Cayuga-owned properties that are within Cayuga Territory.

Qualifications
• Must understand how a traditional Haudenosaunee government operates.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years experience in public administration, business administration, real estate, urban planning, or a related field.
• Must be able to set priorities and manage competing demands.
• Solid experience with word processing programs, database management systems, and spreadsheets.
• Knowledge of NAHASDA, IHBG and HUD programs a plus.
• Knowledge of budgeting and narrative and financial reporting

Human Resources Coordinator

Job Description
The Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for effective recruitment and retention of Nation and Enterprise employees. This includes posting available jobs, scheduling and conducting interviews, and ensuring payroll is done as accurately and as timely as possible. The HR Coordinator is primarily responsible for maintaining and evaluating all employee policies. He/she collaborates with supervisors and coordinators to ensure job vacancies are filled and employees are fulfilling their duties and adhering to Nation policy. The HR Coordinator proactively address employee grievances and other conflicts through education, trainings, and ensuring that potential and current employees understand the nature and scope of their work.

General Coordinator

Job Description
The General Coordinator is responsible for all operations of Cayuga Nation Enterprises. The General Coordinator will plan, direct and coordinate all aspects of the businesses, ensuring each enterprise runs smoothly and according to Nation policy. GC is responsible for creating and getting Council approval for departmental budgets; hiring and training Directors and Coordinators, who report directly to him/her; overseeing purchasing, banking, and accounting.

Qualifications

• Superior leadership skills; ability to work independently with little direct supervision.

Assistant General Coordinator

Job Description
The Assistant General Coordinator is involved with all operations of Cayuga Nation Enterprises, supporting the General Coordinator. Oversees all aspects of day-to-day operations: ensures budgets are followed, Nation policies are upheld, and business sales goals are met. Keeps department leaders and Council members informed about budgets, policies, sales, and any other concerns. Supervises employees and assists in the supervision of Administration staff.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree (or higher) in a related field of study or equivalent years of experience.

Lakeside Trading Store Manager

Job Description
The Lakeside Trading Store Manager oversees day-to-day operations and staff. Lakeside Trading Store Manager is an inspirational leader to staff and responsible for attaining a high degree of customer satisfaction. The Store Manager must be able to handle and resolve escalated customer complaints and issues that arise. He/she manages the hiring, training and development of the staff and inventories all stock. He/she is responsible for ensuring profit maximization through employee coordination and motivation. Most importantly, it is the manager's responsibility to handle all of the money at the end of each sales day, making sure that each employee’s money is accounted for. The Lakeside Trading Store Manager reports to the General Coordinator and the Unity Council of Cayuga Nation.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience in business administration, public relations, customer service, marketing management or a related field.
• Experience (at least 3 years) in retail in handling the day-to-day operations efficiently.

Bookkeeper

Job Description
The bookkeeper will handle the fundamental aspects of the Cayuga Nation’s financial record-keeping. The bookkeeper will record financial transactions, such as checks written and received; manage accounts payable and receivable; reconcile bank statements; update the trial balance, profit-and-loss statement, and balance sheet; assist with budget preparations. He/she should be familiar with bookkeeping programs and possess strong numerical abilities.

Qualifications
• Must understand how a traditional Haudenosaunee government operates.
• Attention to detail.
• An Associate's degree or equivalent years of experience in accounting, business administration, or a related field
• Knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles (we use Sage and will provide the appropriate trainings).
• Knowledge of accounting techniques and procedures, including purchase order coding.
• Knowledge of maintaining account balances and reporting on their status.
• Knowledge of proper preparation of tabular materials, charts and statistical data.
• Communication skills to communicate with employees and outside vendors.


Security Coordinator

Job Description
Coordinates all security aspects for the Cayuga Nation security, properties, and Enterprises. Ensures all properties are secure on a 24-hour basis. Coordinates training and certifications for security staff. Creates schedules for staff members to ensure 24-hour operation demands are met. Meets with Cayuga Nation Unity Council on weekly basis to ensure security demands are met, and any new issues are taken care of. Conducts security supervisor meetings to ensure appropriate conduct and practices are met by all security staff. Meets with security staff to ensure all risks are brought to management’s attention. Retains relationships and clear communication with local NY State authorities to ensure peaceful resolutions for both Native and Non-Native people that reside in the area.

Qualifications

• Superior knowledge of Haudenosaunee Law and traditions.
• An Associate’s degree (or higher) or at least 2 years supervisor or management experience in a related field.
• Strong decision-making skills, problem-solving skills and conflict-management abilities. • Attention to detail in terms of scheduling, basic math, and record keeping.
• Proven ability to work as part of a team: excellent ability to delegate and work with all levels of management and administration.
• Outstanding communication skills to speak with officers and agents from diverse backgrounds.

Education Coordinator

Job Description
Develops and implements educational programs for employees, Cayuga citizens, and community members. Designs and manages all aspects of a high-school equivalency (HSE) program. Assists Cayuga citizens and other community members in defining and pursing their educational goals through career counseling, a HSE program, and by developing other programs. Possible program areas include: working with technology, applying for college, and workforce training.

Qualifications
• Must understand how a traditional Haudenosaunee government operates.
• A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) or equivalent years experience in education or a closely related field.
• Creative and analytic thinker, able to teach concepts from a variety of perspectives.
• Knowledge of New York State’s “Common Core” areas and recent changes to the HSE exam in New York State.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
